Type B Plug Adapter and power Outlet description

Type B plug adapter, consists of three prongs : 2 flat parallel pins plus a ground. This style plug belongs to North American countries, some South American countries and Japan. This is a grounded style plug, which means it can be used for sensitive items.

Type B Plugs and plug adapters

  • The Type B plug it's identical to the type A plug but it contains a ground round pin addition
  • The ground pin, also called earth,it's longer than the other pins, it's used to ground more sensitive equipment as you plug into the power outlet.
  • Just like the type A, type B plugs contains the polarized feature which consists of one of the paralell pins being wider than the other.
  • In type B plugs the left pin it's neutral and the right pin it's live
  • Japan may also use type B plugs although it's less common than the type A. Japan also adopts other size standards for the size of the blades.

Type B Power outlet

  • Type B power outlets are the American Standard outlets
  • It consists of 2 flat parallel receptacles, one live and one neutral of different lengths, and a round receptacle bellow the 2 parallel designated for grounding.
  • In Japan type B plugs can be found but are not very common.

Type B Power cords

  • Allows the plug in of equipments into a Type B socket
  • 10 Amp Power Cord/ 1800 mm can be used on Computers and other items that contain detacheable power cords.
  • Power cords are an alternative for plug adapters, and do not convert electricity.

TYPE B plugs and outlets

(Used in North American and some Central and South American countries as well as Japan)

Type B plugs are considered Type I. The plugs are consisted of 2 parallel flat prongs on the top and a long, round grounded prong on the bottom, located between the 2 flat pins.The outlet receptacles contain 2 flat parallel openings that are different lenghts (one neutral and one live) and a round insert below and betwwen the 2 flat receptacles.

Type B power outlets and plugs adapters are adopted in the following countries : American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guam, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Japan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Mexico, Micronesia, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Niger, Okinawa, Palmyra Atoll, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Tahiti, Taiwan, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkmenistan, United States of America, Venezuela, Virgin Islands.

These plugs are rated North American 15 A/125 V grounded.Plug adapters for type B outlets can be found in country specific form (example : England to American) or universal to American.

Type B plugs and outlets are also present in Japan but are not as common as Type A plugs and outlets. Type B plugs and outlets in Japan are also slight differentin lenght and diameter, which might require the use if a plug adapter when travelling from US/ Canada to Japan.
