China Plug Styles
There are two official standards for plugs and sockets in the Peoples Republic of China?a three-blade CPCS-CCC (the most common), and the British BS-1363 sockets. Both use 220 volt/ 50 hertz system, whereas the U.S uses a 110 volt/ 60 hertz system.
So why aren?t all plugs and socket universal? By the time Europe gained electrical technology it had advanced to the 220 Volt system, but the U.S was too deep into the 110/120 volt infrastructure to upgrade.
An adapter, used for your electronics (laptop, cellphone, digital camera, etc.), simply matches the shape of your plug with the shape of the outlet. It does not change the voltage of the device. Check the AC power adapter and make sure it says 120V-240V to ensure you can use it anywhere.
A converter on the other hand is a device that will convert the 220 volt/ 50 hertz output to 110 volt/ 60 hertz for your electrical devices (hair dryer, electric shaver, curling iron, etc.), otherwise they will be ruined, or worse, you?ll have a startling fireworks show flying from the wall socket.
