What is Power Outlet. What Type a Power Outlet

In simple words we can define power out let as an electrical (or electronic) fitting that is associated to a source of power (power supply) and equipped to accept an insert to enable the running of electrical devices or in other words we can say that a receptacle arrangement providing a place in a wiring system where current can be taken to run the electrical devices.
 

Power outlet also comes under the category of power plugs and socket, in fact power outlet itself is a plug and socket arrangement. These power outlets (plugs and sockets) mostly operate with the AC power sources. So, these power outlets are basically the devices that permit electrically operated equipment to be connected to the primary alternating current (AC) power supply in a building. These Electrical plugs and sockets may differ in voltage and current ratings, shape, size and type of connectors. The various types used in each country and are set by national standards. There are now presently 15 types of electrical outlet plugs in use these days, each of which has been assigned a letter by the US Department of Commerce International Trade Administration (ITA). The most commonly used power outlets are A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O in alphabetic order, these letters are totally arbitrary they do not actually indicate anything.

Types Of Power Outlet:

Type A:

This type of power outlet is composed of 2 pins, not grounded   operates at current 15 A, while voltage rating varies from 100 – 127 V. The socket is compatible with plug type A can be seen in the figure. Type A is mainly used in the USA, Canada, Mexico & Japan.

Type B:

This type of power outlet is composed of 3 pins, also grounded   operates at current 15 A, while voltage rating varies from 100 – 127 V. The socket is compatible with plug type A and B can be seen in the figure. Type B is mainly used in the various countries like USA, Canada, Mexico & Japan.

Type C:

This type of power outlet consists of 2 pins, not grounded operates at current 2.5 A, while voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C and can be seen in the figure. Type C is commonly used in the different regions like Europe, South America & Asia.

Type D:

It consists of 3 pins, not grounded operates at current 2.5 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C and D. Mainly used in india.

Type E:

It consists of 2 pins, grounded, operating current 16 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C and E,F. Mainly used in France, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia & the Czech Republic.

It consists of 2 pins, grounded, operating current 16 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C and E,F. Mainly used in Europe and Russia.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 13 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type G. Mainly used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Malaysia & Singapore.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 16 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C, H. Used exclusively in Israel, the West Bank & the Gaza Strip.

Type I:

It consists of 2 or 3 pins, 2 pins not grounded, 3 grounded, operating current 10 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type I. Used in Australia, New Zealand, China & Argentina.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 10 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C,J. Used in almost exclusively in Switzerland, Liechtenstein & Rwanda.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 16 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C,K. Used in Denmark & Greenland.

Type L:

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 10-16 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type L. used almost exclusively in Italy & Chile.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 15 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type M. mainly used in South Africa.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 10-20 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C,N. mainly used in Brazil.

It consists of 3 pins, grounded, operating current 16 A, and voltage rating involves 220 – 240 V. The socket is compatible with plug type C,O. mainly used in Thailand.
